Biohome Mini Ultra is most suitable for external canister filters, overhead filters, aquarium sumps, and aquarium shower / trickle filters. It could be described as a larger more porous version of the Biohome Standard media or a smaller type of the much larger Biohome Ultra. It has a porosity of over 50%.
You can test the extreme porosity of the Biohome Mini Ultra yourself by touching just the tip of a piece of media to the surface of some water. You’ll be amazed at how fast the water is drawn up the entire length.
Biohome Mini Ultra media will easily outperform all ceramic trickle tower and shower media in the removal of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
Biohome Mini Ultra is an efficient biological filter media and good mechanical filtration must be provided first to ensure the water passing through it does not contain any debris that might clog it and reduce efficiency.
As all Biohome media is inert it allows you to raise or lower the pH to suit certain fish species without having a buffering effect.
For best nitrate reduction use approximately 1kg per 100 litres of aquarium water for a normally stocked tank. Heavily stocked systems can take between 1.5kg - 2kg per 100 litres to achieve full cycle filtration (reduction in nitrate).

- Rinse filter media in plain water to remove any fine dust particles.
- Once media is in the filter trays/baskets/mesh bags add the bacteria balls (included in box) on top, these will slowly release millions of beneficial bacteria to properly seed the filter media.
- To clean any particulate matter from the surface of the filter media rinse gently in mature aquarium water.
